Albury Wodonga Health partners with private healthcare providers to deliver innovative and evidence-based cancer care to both public and private patients.

Border Medical Oncology and Haematology - Founded in 1998, this is a specialist medical practice dedicated to the treatment of malignant diseases (cancers) as well as non-malignant haematology disorders. They are a leading regional centre for cancer care and have a commitment to clinical trials and improving cancer outcomes for regional patients.  For more information please see here.

Since 2016 Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre has been the proud home of the Border Medical Oncology Research Unit, a not-for-profit research organisation established in 1998. Border Medical Oncology Research Unit has been involved in over 350 clinical trials with over 2,000 patients recruited and has twice been awarded the NSW Premier’s Award for innovation in Cancer Clinical Trials. They have contributed enormously towards our shared goal of pursuing regional excellence in cancer care and will continue to do so alongside AWH.

Clinical trials are an important part of contemporary cancer care. As part of the transition to a public service model, the necessary governance, pharmacy, and clinical approvals must be finalised with external trial sponsors before trials can continue under new arrangements. Albury Wodonga Health is working closely with clinical partners including Border Medical Oncology Research Unit and other clinical trial investigators, and our clear intent is for clinical trials to continue at the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre in the future. Our focus remains on delivering high quality, safe, and sustainable cancer services for our community.

AWH Cancer Care Coordinators are specialist nurses who provide support, resources and information to you, your family and support person throughout your cancer journey.

An individual’s experience of cancer is unique and needs may differ. You may have questions regarding treatments, tests, concerns or how the health system works.

AWH Cancer Care Coordinators support you by:

• Helping you to understand your disease and treatment options
  
• Coordinating care and making appropriate referrals to other services such as allied health or palliative care
• Providing emotional support including information about support groups and services available in the area
• Guiding you to the financial and practical supports that may be available for you and your family.

Patients and carers are encouraged to contact the Cancer Care Coordinators for more information.

Working in partnership with your treating team, Cancer Council Liaison help support you and your family. They can provide reliable, evidence based information and connect you with relevant practical and emotional support services throughout your cancer journey.

Hilltop Accommodation Centre provides patients and their carers with comfortable and affordable accommodation close to the Albury Base Hospital, Albury Wodonga Cancer Centre and other local treatment centres.

From the time of diagnosis, and throughout treatment, McGrath Breast Care Nurses inform, organise, empower and support people with breast cancer 

No cancer treatment is without its challenges, but this is where they can help. They listen, guide and support people with breast cancer, and their families, every day through meaningful conversations, advice and quality care.

A McGrath Breast Care Nurse builds an important relationship with each person they support. They become a trusted, consistent and knowledgeable point of contact. As professional and qualified nurses they care for people with both early and metastatic breast cancer.

Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre McGrath Nurses also run a SOZO lymphedema assessment clinic.

A diagnosis of prostate cancer can be a very stressful time for men and their loved ones. Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia support a team of Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurses around Australia.

The AWRCC Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse can be contacted by you at any stage during or after treatment. They can help by providing reliable information about your diagnosis and treatment options, care and support to help manage the side effects of treatment as well as help accessing community services and support groups.
