The Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Specialist Outpatient Clinic

Albury Wodonga Health is pleased to bring the community a fully public cancer specialist outpatient clinic.  All cancer patients in our catchment are able to receive high quality care, close to home, under the public healthcare system or access our services as a private patient using their health insurance.  

Dr Hamilton graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Science in 2006 with first class honours in pharmacology. He graduated medical school from Monash University in 2011 and completed a Masters in Medical Statistics in 2021.

Dr Hamilton trained in medical oncology through the Macarthur and Liverpool Cancer Centres, before doing a rural/tertiary specialised training program through Chris O’Brien Lifehouse and The Alan Coates Cancer Centre in Dubbo. He admitted to the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2018.

Dr Hamilton is a former chair of The Cancer Institute of NSW’s EVIQ service, responsible for the development and publication of internationally recognised cancer treatment guidelines.

Dr Hamilton moved to Albury as a medical oncologist in 2019 and is the current Clinical Director of Cancer Services for Albury Wodonga Health.  He also works as a physician in general medicine for Albury Wodonga Health.

Medical Oncologist

Dr Clarke has been part of the Albury Wodonga community since 1999.

Trained in the Victorian Oncology program, essentially based at the Royal Melbourne and Austin Hospitals, Dr Clarke completed a year’s fellowship in clinical research studies before being awarded a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) grant and embarking on an MD in tumour targeting (antibody) therapy in Breast Cancer Models with the Ludwig Institute of Molecular Medicine in Oxford UK, where she worked on early studies of EGFR receptors in Breast Cancer cells, and influence of angiogenesis.

Throughout all research Dr Clarke continued clinical work with Oncology units in both Australia and the UK, gaining considerable experience and insight into cancer management under a variety of renown Oncologists, and has multiple publications to her name.

Returning to Australia, Dr Clarke who whilst city born has a passion for rural Australia, joined Dr Underhill in helping establish Border Medical Oncology. She began consulting with Albury Wodonga Health Cancer Services Specialist Outpatient Clinics in 2026.

She had leading input in establishing Breast Cancer Nursing Services in the area, and later supporting McGrath Nurses when funding become available. She was instrumental, along with breast surgeons in the area, in establishing a Breast Multidisciplinary Team meeting, which was one of the first team meetings established in the area. She is a member of The Breast Cancer Trials Group and has been advisory boards.

Dr Clarke continues her special interest in Breast Cancer, and brings with her over 25 years in treating breast, bowel, brain, melanoma and lung cancer patients with care, respect, and knowledge.

Medical Oncologist

Christopher spent his early life on a farm in the Southern Riverina and is honoured to have the privilege of caring for patients from the region in which he grew up. Christopher gained his medical degree at the University of Melbourne and Royal Melbourne Hospital before completing physician training in medical oncology in 2000. After gaining his fellowship, Christopher travelled to London to work as a clinical research fellow at Kings College London, Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospital. Whilst at Guy’s he developed an interest in gynaecological oncology and cancer in the older adult and he continues to use this expertise on a daily basis in his clinical practice and research.

Christopher returned to Albury Wodonga to join Border Medical Oncology in 2003 and has continued his passion for clinical research and teaching since that time. Christopher has held a teaching position at the UNSW Rural Clinical School since 2003 and has recently been promoted to Associate Professor.  Christopher began consulting at the Albury Wodonga Health Cancer Services Specialist Outpatient Clinic in 2026.

Christopher is an investigator at the Border Medical Oncology Research Unit and strives to bring clinical trials to patients in regional Australia. As the coordinator of Independent Learning Projects (ILPs) for the UNSW rural clinical school, Christopher works to foster research skills in local medical students and acts as a mentor for clinician investigators. Christopher is an author on over 100 peer reviewed publications and conference abstracts and is a regular speaker at national and international conferences.

Christopher is a passionate advocate for improving the care of older adults with cancer and has served on the board of the International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG). Christopher was chair of the scientific committee of the SIOG annual scientific meeting in Prague in 2016. He serves on three editorial boards including the Journal of Geriatric Oncology. He was the inaugural chair of the Clinical Oncological Society of Australia (COSA) geriatric interest group and served as the chair of the geriatric study group of the Multinational Association for Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC).

Christopher was a board member of the Medical Oncology Group of Australia (MOGA) and is the current president of the Private Cancer Physicians of Australia (PCPA). He is a member of ASCO, ESMO, IGCS, MOGA, COSA and MASCC and has recently been appointed to the COSA board.

Christopher continues his research and advocacy to improve the care of all patients with a diagnosis of cancer with a focus on improving the supportive care of older adults. He brings this knowledge and experience to the care of each patient he sees at the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre.

Dr Helena Sim is a medical oncologist dedicated to compassionate, high-quality, patient-centred cancer care. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and holds a PhD (Medicine), with a strong interest in expanding access to clinical trials, particularly for regional and rural patients.  Dr Sim also works as a physician in palliative medicine for Albury Wodonga Health.

She completed her medical degree at the University of Melbourne, following earlier undergraduate studies and a PhD at Monash University, where she researched novel cancer signalling pathways. Dr Sim has published in peer-reviewed medical journals and remains closely engaged with advances in cancer treatment.

Dr Sim has extensive experience managing complex and advanced cancers, with a strong focus on multidisciplinary care in regional settings. Following advanced oncology training in Albury-Wodonga  and Canberra, she completed a clinical trials fellowship at the Northern Sydney Cancer Centre  (Royal North Shore Hospital), contributing to early- and late-phase clinical trials across multiple tumour streams.

Based in Albury since early 2025, Dr Sim has been practising as a medical oncologist at Border Medical Oncology and is a senior research associate with the Border Medical Oncology Research Unit. She treats all solid organ malignancies, with interests in brain, gynaecological, urogenital, lung, gastrointestinal, and breast cancers.

Dr Sandy Tun Min joined Albury Wodonga Cancer Care in February 2025.  She is a dedicated medical oncologist with extensive experience in inpatient and outpatient oncology care, clinical research and medical education.  She graduated from the University of New South Wales in 2011 and underwent medical oncology training at Calvary Mater Newcastles, North West Cancer Centre, Macarthur Cancer Centre and Bankstown Cancer Centre.

A Fellow of the Royal Australiasian College of Physicians (FRACP) since 2020, Sandy also holds a Master of Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Newcastle and has contributed to peer-reviewed publications.

Dr Tun Min held a staff specialist position at Royal Darwin Hospital and the Alan Walker Cancer Centre from 2021 to 2024, gaining valuable experience in providing oncology services in a regional hospital. Throughout her career, Sandy has been involved in research, including clinical trials.

Dr Tun Min treats all solid organ malignancies with special interest in the fields of lung, breast, gastrointestinal and gynaecological oncology. She is involved in various multidisciplinary meetings and always strives to provide compassionate and evidence-based cancer care.

Dr Xu graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Medical Science in 2007 before graduating medical school at Monash University in 2011.  

Dr Xu underwent specialist training in medical oncology through The Kinghorn Cancer Centre and Macarthur Cancer Centre in Sydney and was a fellow at the Melanoma Institute of Australia.  She was admitted to the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2020 and moved to Albury in 2021.

Throughout her training, Dr Xu has gained considerable experience in specialist breast cancer and melanoma clinics, and in managing patients on clinical trials.  

Dr Xu treats all solid organ malignancies, with particular interests in breast cancer, melanoma and cancers of the genitourinary tract.  Dr Xu also works as a physician in general medicine for Albury Wodonga Health.

Dr Maged Al-Ammari is a consultant clinical haematologist with fellowship training in Australia & experience across tertiary cancer centres. He completed peer reviewed supervised practice at Liverpool Hospital, NSW, and has undertaken a dedicated leukaemia clinical trials fellowship, with a strong focus on malignant haematology.

Dr Al-Ammari takes a patient-centred, evidence-based approach to care, emphasising clear communication, shared decision-making, and individualised treatment planning. He supports patients and families through complex diagnoses and treatments with a focus on safety, continuity, and compassionate care.

He is actively involved in clinical trials and research across both malignant and non-malignant haematology. Dr AlAmmari has published in peer-reviewed haematology & medical journals, and abstracts at national & international conferences. He is an active member of the American Society of Hematology, the Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand, and the Australia Lymphoma and Leukaemia Group.

As part of the Cancer Centre team, Dr Al-Ammari works closely with nursing staff, allied health professionals, the Wellness Centre, and medical colleagues across Albury Wodonga Health to provide coordinated and holistic care. He was drawn to the service by the opportunity to deliver high quality specialist haematology care within a regional setting and to contribute to the continued growth of the Cancer Centre.
