We have over 170 Specialists supporting our inpatient services, providing elective and emergency care as well as in the outpatient setting.

Our Specialists are accessible to and supportive of our registrars. Majority of our registrar roles are accredited with the relevant speciality colleges. AWH offers dedicated PGY3 positions for those who are interested in careers in Critical Care as these positions provide a foundation for advancing into speciality training programs. These Critical Care HMO rotate through Anaesthetics, ICU and Emergency.  The Critical Care HMO positions are not part of the PMCV match.

Our Hospital Medical Officers (HMOs) are supported by their Consultants and Registrars, who are readily accessible and provide excellent learning opportunities and hands-on experiences. This supportive culture combined with a range of medical education offerings, make Albury Wodonga Health the perfect place for pre-vocational medical training.

With the National Framework for Pre-vocational training, the following rotations are available for the clinical year.

The rotations available for PGY2+ are:

• General Medicine
• Cardiology
• Medical Oncology
• Geriatrics
• Rehabilitation Medicine
• General Surgery
• ENT
• Urology
• Orthopaedics
• Psychiatry
• Emergency
• Anaesthetics
• Intensive Care

 Basic Physician Training (PGY2 and above)

For the 2025 clinical year, Albury Wodonga Health will be continuing to offer Basic Physician Training pathway to support out prevocational doctors in their first step in becoming a physician. Training at AWH will allow access to quality clinical and education opportunities across the accredited training sites.

This training pathway establishes a 3-year pathway for trainees to complete their BPT training. The first year (BPT1) is at AWH, the second year(BPT2) is through the Greater Western Consortium, and the third year (BPT3) is with AWH once more. 

This pathway maps out training between AWH and the Greater Western Consortium to support BPTs in accessing high-quality clinical education opportunities in accredited training sites. Additionally, this pathway supports doctors interested in working in regional areas long-term and who wish to train regionally as well.

Annual Recruitment opens in line with the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMVC) recruitment schedule (Applications typically open around June/July).

The Intern and HMO programs at AWH are accredited by both PMCV and HETI. AWH has a range of training pathway for the pre-vocational doctor and offers accredited training pathways across. AWH supports the prevocational doctor from internship to being a Specialist via the multiple training pathway available.

Application Process

AWH is located on the Victorian / NSW border and as such there are two potential application pathways:

1. Victorian Match through Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV).

• Applications open 10:00 am on Monday 6 May 2024 and close 5:00 pm on Thursday 6 June 2023.
  
   2024 Intern Match - PMCV

• AWH will be participating in the Victorian Rural Preferential Allocation (VRPA) through PMCV match, which is ideal for those interested in working in regional areas.
• If you are not applying via the VRPA match, then you will need to apply through the PMCV allocation process.
• You will still need to apply directly to our hospital (by sending in your Intern application form and cover letter) in addition to your PMCV application. Please address the cover letter to the Manager – Intern HMO unit. Please submit the documents to the Intern HMO unit via email: MWUrecruitment@awh.org.au

2. NSW Match through Health Education and Training (HETI).

• Applications for Rural Preferential Recruitment (RPR) open Monday 6 May 2024 and close at 11.59pm on Thursday 6 June 2024  
• In addition to the HETI Application, please complete the attached AWH Intern Application Form and return to the Manager – Intern HMO unit via email: MWUrecruitment@awh.org.au

AWH has medical students from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and Charles Sturt University.

As partners with these 2 clinical schools, AWH continues to facilitate regional medical training to ensure a continued and growing Albury Wodonga highly skilled medical workforce. The region is also supported by the Border Regional Training Hub.
