This Month's Activites

AWH will be acknowledging all the women within our workforce with expressing our appreciation for their contribution and how we value them as an employee to AWH. We encourage individual departments to take this day to celebrate within their teams with making a kind gesture or having a little morning / afternoon tea for their department

To acknowledge and celebrate Diversity and Inclusion month, we're introducing the INSPIRE INCLUSION Tree, which will be prominently displayed at both the Wodonga and Albury Campuses near the cafeteria. This tree symbolises our commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace where every individual feels valued, respected, and appreciated.

Throughout March, we encourage you to contribute to the Diversity and Inclusion Tree by sharing your personal experiences, insights, and meaningful pictures. Whether it's a cherished memory, a powerful story, or a snapshot that captures the core of diversity, we would love to cherish this with you.

By sharing our diverse perspectives and experiences, we can enhance our understanding of one another and strengthen the bonds that join us as a community.

Keep an eye out for the tree located near the entries of the cafes.

The 6 indicators below are ideas for you to align your image to. Once you have an image you feel that deeply resonates with you and you’d like to share, please email it through to georgia.spence@awh.org.au from the Diversity and Inclusion team and she will post this on the D&I Tree for you, for our sites that are not located at the Albury and Wodonga hospital, this method is to ensure your stories are shared amongst the organisation and consumers.

  1. What’s your commitment to Equality?
  2. How are we improving the understanding of our people and the gender diversity they bring to our organisation?
  3. How have we/you developed a diverse and inclusive leadership capability
  4. How and what have we done to better integrate Gender Equality principles into People and HR policies and procedures
  5. What are we doing individually or as a team to target attraction, development and retention of under-represented groups?
  6. How are we and what are you doing to assist with embedding GE principles in consumer, community, supplier and volunteer interactions?

The following listed days can be acknowledged and celebrated within each department, however this will be up to the individual departments to coordinate the days with their team and what they would like to celebrate. Please see some easy yet impactful suggestions that you can potentially utilise.

Within your department and or on our Inspire Inclusion tree, we suggest showcasing aboriginal art. You can also have a team meeting on the theme “prevention is better than cure” and share these insights on the tree to show some interventions that are in place which aims to reduce Indigenous disadvantage with respect to life expectancy, child mortality, access to early childhood education, educational achievement and employment outcomes.

You can also represent the Australian Aboriginal Flag in your signatures throughout this month.

We encourage AWH to spread awareness for people with down syndrome and wear your most colourful socks. Dan Harrowell our Education and Health Ambassador, he will be running a morning tea at the People and Culture office, and he will be presenting his tie die clothing he makes and sells as a side interest. You will be able to see this work at the morning tea and on the Inspire inclusion tree. The morning tea will be held at 10:00am.

We encourage individual teams to dress up in cultural excitement and bring a dish along for lunch that they love to cook in their country.  You can pick a day that suits your team from the 18 through till the 24 of March to celebrate this day.

Throughout this time period, you can wear colourful items such as

-          Rainbow clothes

-          Rainbow nails

-          Rainbow jewellery or hair wear

-          Set up your work area in colour and present the LGBTQI+ flag in your email signatures or in your work area.

Celebrating International Women's Day

Friday 8 March is International Women's day and this year's theme is 'Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate progress'

Based on the priority theme for the United Nations 68th Commission on the Status of Women, Count Her In will examine the pathways to greater economic inclusion for women and girls everywhere.

While important progress has been made, women face significant obstacles to achieving equal participation in the economy.

Without equal access to education, employment pathways, financial services and literacy, how can we ever hope to reach gender equality?

We must ensure women and girls are given equal opportunity to build their capabilities and strengthen their capacity to learn, earn and lead.

Our all staff webinar will include inspirational stories from women who work within AWH.

Join in the webinar on Wednesday to be inspired, learn from and champion your fellow female colleagues.
