Accreditation assessments can occur with little notice. Assessors will spend around 80% of their time in wards and clinical areas, speaking directly with consumers, families, and staff to validate that our systems for safe, quality care are being implemented effectively.

Anyone may be approached by an assessor, here are some helpful tips to guide your interaction:

  • Be confident and honest. If you’re unsure, it’s okay to say: “I’m not sure, or  I can find out or direct you to someone who can.”
  • Use real examples. Describe how you apply processes in your daily work.
  • Stay calm and professional. Assessors are here to understand how we deliver safe, quality care—not to catch anyone out.
  • Know your key policies. Be familiar with:
    • Infection Prevention and Control
    • Medication Safety
    • Incident Reporting
    • Patient Identification
  • Speak to your role. Be ready to explain how your work contributes to patient safety and quality improvement.
