AWH Graduate Nurse Program (General Stream):

AWH Graduate Nurse Program provides support and guidance to you as a beginning practitioner in a stimulating and safe environment.

Our aim is to:

  • Develop clinical competence, confidence and skills while being supported by clinical educators, preceptors and transition to practice team.  

  • Promotion of ongoing personal and professional development.

  • Provide adequate exposure and experience across a variety of clinical areas allowing career options

  • Creation of an environment that allows reflective practice and application of lifelong learning strategies.

12 Months

Each graduate will:

  • Work across both Albury and Wodonga campuses
  • Allocated 4 weeks annual leave within the program
  • Receive comprehensive orientation to the organisation and clinical areas
  • Receive educational and staff support in all areas, including dedicated graduate support from the Transition to Practice team and clinical educators.
  • Access to a broad range of education including an E-learning portal
  • Undertake staff appraisals and receive regular feedback
  • Work within a dynamic multidisciplinary team
  • Access to a regual debrief session

AWH Graduate Nursing Program offers a variety of rotations across both Albury and Wodonga campus.

There are a limited number of 6-month clinical rotations, which include:

  • Paediatrics
  • Midwifery (including Women's Surgical and Special Care Nursery)
  • Theatre
  • Emergency
  • Dialysis

The remaining rotations are of either 3 or 4 months duration:

  • Sub-Acute Unit
  • Surgical
  • Medical
  • Day Procedure Unit
  • District Nursing Service
  • Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • Close Observation Unit (COU)
  • Cardiac Cath Lab
  • Acute Overflow Unit

Entry to the Graduate Nurse program is a two-step approach.

Candidates must meet the following mandatory criteria to be eligible to apply:

  • AHPRA registration prior to commencement
  • Completion of the undergraduate course within the previous 12-months
  • Not currently in a graduate program
  • Registered with the Allocation and Placement Service
