Infection Prevention & Control Week – 19-25 October

How many germs are in the jar?
It’s Infection Prevention & Control Week (19–25 October), and our Infection Prevention & Control team has plenty of fun (and learning!) in store!
International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW) is a global initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the critical importance of infection prevention.
This year’s theme is "Stand UPPP for Infection Prevention", highlighting the power of collective action.
UPPP stands for Unite, Protect, Prevent, Prevail — four pillars that reflect what it takes to stop the spread of infection and create safer spaces for all.
This Infection Prevention & Control Week, you can get involved!
Keep an eye out during ward rounds next week for:
- Guess the germs competition — take a guess at how many “germs” (lollies!) are in the jar.
- GlitterBug hand hygiene checks — see how well you really wash your hands under the UV light!
- Quick quizzes, freebies and info — test your knowledge and pick up handy infection prevention and control tips.
It’s all a great reminder that infection prevention isn’t just for clinical areas; it’s something we all play a part in, every shift, every day.
