With measles activity increasing globally and recent cases reported in Victoria and NSW, clinicians are encouraged to remain alert to measles risk and support vaccination where appropriate.

Two doses of measles‑mumps‑rubella (MMR) vaccine are required to ensure protection against measles, in line with national recommendations.

Consider vaccination for patients who:

  • were born during or after 1966 and do not have two documented doses of MMR vaccine

  • have an uncertain or incomplete immunisation history (particularly for those born overseas)

  • are planning overseas travel, including infants aged 6–11 months (pre‑travel dose)

Serological testing is not routinely recommended prior to vaccination where there is no documented evidence of two doses of a measles‑containing vaccine.

Vaccination options

To support improved access to MMR vaccination across the Ovens Murray region, the Public Health Unit has been working with local partners to establish several access pathways, including:

  • Local government immunisation services

  • Health service vaccination programs

  • General practice vaccination services

For a limited time (until the end of the financial year), OMPHU is covering the MMR vaccine administration fees at The Vaccination Hub and at the Wodonga Council Immunisation sessions. The Wodonga Immunisation team delivers immunisation sessions in Towong and Indigo Shires. Please refer the council immunisation websites above for further information.
