The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is experiencing an outbreak of Bundibugyo virus disease (BVD) in Ituri province. BVD is a type of Ebola disease (a viral hemorrhagic fever) caused by infection with the Bundibugyo virus. 

Public health advice 

  • No additional public health actions required in Australia at this stage beyond routine surveillance. 

  • Immediately contact your local Public Health Unit (PHU) on 1300 651 160 to report any suspected cases and coordinate diagnostic testing and public health response.
