5S Continuous Improvement Program - Upcoming Event Thursday 5th March

Teams that are relocating to the Northeast building have been busy behind the scenes putting their 5S skills into practice by starting to declutter their workspaces, culminating in our first Declutter Event supported by our 5S expert and Capital Redevelopment.

This event is an opportunity for our 5S champions and their support crews to get into cupboards, filing drawers and storage areas and clean out those ‘out of sight, out of mind’ items that have been lurking around for some time but are no longer needed.  Watch this space for before and after photos.

What’s Next for the 5S Decluttering Program?

Upcoming Events and building even more momentum!

Following the high‑energy launch of our 2026 5S Continuous Improvement Program, the steps will be all about turning learning into action.

Our newly trained Continuous Improvement Champions are now preparing to guide their teams through the early phases of workplace transformation. With the move to the Northeast Building on the horizon, the work we do now will set the foundations for safer, more organised and more efficient spaces.

1. Pulse Check – Learning > Action

Next week we'll hold the first Pulse Check with our 5S Champions.  This is an opportunity for participants check in with the 5S specialist consultant about how they're progressing with applying the 5S framework in their area, get expert support to help work through any challenges and understand where they can make the biggest impact.

2. First On‑Site Decluttering Event – Putting it into practice

In two weeks’ time we’ll be holding our first 5S Event, where participants' newly acquired 5S skills will really shine!   Champions will lead the activity supported by the specialist 5S consultant and the Change & Redevelopment teams. Further details to come!

3. Continuing the Momentum

The launch workshop sparked excitement and a strong sense of ownership among the Champions — and the next steps will build on that enthusiasm.

The 2026 5S Program is shaping into a highly collaborative journey, with each department playing an important role as we prepare for our transition to the Northeast Building.

Together, we’re creating safer, more organised and future‑ready workspaces — one step at a time.

5S Program Launches With a Buzz!

Our 2026 5S Continuous Improvement Program is officially underway — and the energy from the first workshop on the 4th February was fantastic! Staff from across AWH jumped in as our new Continuous Improvement Champions, learning hands‑on 5S techniques to help declutter, organise and refresh our workspaces ahead of the move to the Northeast Building.

The workshop, delivered by a specialist Lean/5S consultant, brought together local leaders from across impacted departments who will guide their teams through decluttering, organising and embedding sustainable work practices. Up to 20 participants attended workshop 1 on Thursday.

This marks the start of an exciting, action‑packed program filled with workshops, pulse checks and team‑powered decluttering events.

Momentum is building — and teams will start putting 5S into action in their areas over the coming weeks. Let’s do this!

FFE Asset Transfer List Audit Happening 17/18 February

An asset audit by department was completed in early 2025 to identify the FFE which will be suitable for transfer to the Northeast Building. This data formed the Asset Audit Priority Work List. Each item on the list has been assessed and scored against the FFE Transfer Principles for transfer suitability. The criteria were:

  • Asset condition
  • Asset age & remaining life cycle
  • Fit for purpose
  • WHS/OHS in the new space.

HealthShare will be onsite 18th and 19th February, to identify and confirm exactly what is being transferred, and what is being procured new for the NEB.  HealthShare Victoria is a provider of procurement and logistics services to Victoria's public health services. Their purpose is to partner with health services to ensure the right products and services are delivered to the right place at the right time.

Merial will be in contact with each relevant department to schedule a suitable time on the 18th and 19th for your department representative to work with HealthShare to validate the list of transfer items.  They, HealthShare, and the Capital Redevelopment team will examine each FFE asset in person and tag the item for move, decommission, or procurement.

For any questions about FFE, please contact Merial Trounce.
