Smiles 4 Miles

This Department of Health, initiative aims to improve the oral health of children and their families and targets high risk areas in Victoria. Tooth decay is Australia's most common preventable health issue with 1 in 3 Victorian children aged below five experiencing tooth decay. Smiles 4 Miles aims to encourage and promote good oral health habits and healthy eating among children in early childhood services with the message "Eat Well, Clean Well, Drink Well" being promoted. The program aims to maintain and reinforce good oral health habits from early childhood into adulthood.

Oral Health Terapists and Dental Assistants from Albury Wodonga Health Dental attend local kindergartens to promote the program. Please AWH Dental to discuss your kindergarten's eligibility.

Dental Screenings - During oral health screenings a brief visual examination of children's oral cavity is undertaken. Follow up ensures parents are made aware of their child's present oral health status and possibible treatment needs, with further appointments made at Albury Wodonga Health Dental Service. Dental screenings assess for tooth decay, other oral conditions (e.g. missing teeth, delayed eruption, tooth defects) with tailored oral hygiene advice  provided. Oral Health screenings are undertaken at local kindergartens, primary scvhools and high schools for eligible children.

Please contact the Albury Wodonga Health Dental Service to discuss your early childhood service/schools eligibility.
