Albury Wodonga Health would like to thank the local community for their vigilance in proactively getting tested for COVID-19 this New Year.

Over the past three days we have seen 1,338 individuals pass through our clinics, with 607 individuals presenting for testing on Saturday 2 January alone.

These extraordinary numbers stand testament to community member’s commitment to keeping Albury Wodonga safe, and we would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who braved the extended wait times to get tested.

“I would like to thank the community members who responded to the call to be tested for COVID-19 after they returned from NSW. The queues were often long, but staff reported that everyone was patient and recognised the importance of testing to keep the community safe” Albury Wodonga Health’s Acting CEO, Janet Chapman, said.

We would also like to acknowledge the incredible efforts of our staff at the COVID-19 testing clinics since Friday. To accommodate for the increased demand, a secondary clinic was opened on New Year’s Day, with many staff working at short notice to facilitate its establishment.

“This was a team effort at its finest - with clinicians, nursing, admin, environmental, food, security, traffic management, infrastructure, information technology, public health, and higher management staff all working together,” said Mrs. Chapman.

“Everyone did a wonderful job under difficult circumstances, and worked tirelessly to ensure the community’s safety and wellbeing.”

Along with fantastic support from neighbouring healthcare providers, who extended their operating hours to help meet the high demand, local Pathology staff should also be commended for their extraordinary efforts in processing the tests.

We would like to sincerely thank the Albury Wodonga community, and everyone who got tested - every test makes a difference and helps us get on top of the virus.

People seeking a COVID-19 test can visit the Vermont Street drive-thru clinic which operates from 8am – 4pm every Monday - Sunday.
