City2City Run Walk: The Beloved Border Tradition is Lacing Up Again in 2026

The Border’s much-loved City2City Run Walk is back - bigger, brighter, and ready to unite the community once more! On Sunday, 22 February 2026, thousands of residents are expected to lace up their runners, take to the streets, and cheer together - all in support of vital local health services at Albury Wodonga Health.
Since its launch in 2015, City2City has become a Border institution, inspiring generations to come together, fostering community connection, and raising more than $1 million for Albury Wodonga Health. What started as a small, passionate idea from Michelle Hudson, Jen Hayes, and a dedicated volunteer committee, supported by The Border Trust, grew into one of the region’s most celebrated fundraisers.
Looking back on the decade-long journey of City2City, Michelle Hudson, former Chair of the committee, explains why passing the baton to Albury Wodonga Health Foundation is so meaningful:
“From the very beginning, our goal was simple - to bring the community together and support local health. Passing the baton to the Albury Wodonga Health Foundation ensures that mission continues with the same passion, heart, and community spirit that made City2City so special”, Ms Hudson, said.
AWH CEO Bill Appleby said the health service is thrilled to carry forward the proud legacy of City2City, an event that has become a cornerstone of community connection and support for local health services:
“City2City has always been for the community, by the community - a celebration of the Border coming together to support one another. We are honoured to take up the baton and continue this incredible tradition. Every step, every cheer, every volunteer effort contributes to raising funds that make a real, tangible difference for patients, families, and our local health services. It’s not just an event - it’s a reflection of the generosity, passion, and spirit that makes this region so special, and we can’t wait to see the community out on the streets once again in 2026.”
Adding to the excitement, SS&A Albury joins as the major naming sponsor, helping to amplify participation and fundraising for local patients and families.
SS&A Albury is excited to be the major sponsor of City2City, and to be partnering with Albury Wodonga Health on bringing the event back in 2026” “SS&A has always believed in the power of community,” said Gerard Darmody, CEO, SS&A. “The City2City Run/Walk celebrates what makes Albury-Wodonga special—our generosity and togetherness. Most importantly, it helps fund essential equipment, technology and resources they Albury Wodonga Health staff need to continue providing exceptional care.” he added.
The 2026 City2City course will feature the same popular options that runners and walkers know and love: 15km, 10km, and 7.5km runs, plus 7.5km and 5km Walk & Talk. From participants chasing a personal best to families enjoying a fun, active day together, there’s something for everyone.
“This event thrives on community energy, and we’re calling on more than 100 volunteers to help make 2026 a huge success,” said AWH Foundation Manager, Anthea Maher. “There are also exciting sponsorship opportunities for local businesses who want to get involved and make a meaningful impact on health services across the Border.”
Funds raised through City2City 2026 will directly support Albury Wodonga Health’s Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy Departments, providing vital equipment and services that help patients recover, regain independence, and maintain mobility and wellbeing.
From helping people recover after illness or injury, to supporting those living with disability, fall prevention programs, and healthy ageing initiatives, every runner, walker, volunteer, and supporter will make a tangible difference for individuals and families across the Border.
In a special tribute, a portion of the funds raised will establish a professional development scholarship for Allied Health staff, honouring the memory of Dr Lucie Shanahan. Lucie’s compassion, dedication and commitment to patient care left a lasting mark on Albury Wodonga Health and the broader community. This scholarship will continue her legacy by supporting the growth and excellence of our Allied Health workforce for years to come.
