AWH accredited to train the next generation in women’s health

Albury Wodonga Health (AWH) has been formally re-accredited by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) as a training site for doctors undertaking specialist women’s health programs.
RANZCOG accredits all training sites offering the Certificate of Women’s Health (FRANZCOG), Associate Training Program (Procedural), and Associate Training Program (Advanced Procedural).
The accreditation process is rigorous, assessing how well hospitals support registrars in training while maintaining high standards of patient care. The College looks for evidence of strong clinical supervision, structured education programs, consultant involvement, safe working hours, and a positive workplace culture that supports learning.
The accreditation review, usually held every five years (extended this time due to COVID-19), resulted in an outstanding outcome for AWH. While most hospitals receive a list of recommendations to address, RANZCOG had “nothing but praise” for AWH and suggested no improvements.
The College acknowledged the hospital’s supportive culture, high-quality teaching and excellent outcomes for patients and families. They were particularly complimentary of the leadership of Dr Simone Mulder, Medical Director – Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and the multidisciplinary, collegiate approach fostered by her team.
AWH currently hosts three RANZCOG trainees, who spend 12 months training at the unit. The positive culture is reflected in registrars returning: one senior registrar has chosen to return for her fifth year, after training at AWH in her third year.
“This accreditation reflects the high standards of clinical care, teaching and supervision provided by our dedicated team,” said Dr Mulder. “It ensures that doctors training with us are supported by the very best, and that women and families in our community continue to benefit from leading care close to home.”
Accreditation doesn’t just recognise the efforts of AWH staff; it also benefits the whole community. By supporting the next generation of doctors to develop advanced skills in women’s health, AWH is helping to build a strong, sustainable workforce for the region.
“It’s fantastic to receive this accreditation. It’s a real confirmation of all the hard work we’ve put in to support our registrars and make sure they have a rewarding experience during their time with us,” Dr Mulder said.
“This achievement means women and families can feel confident knowing their care is being delivered in a hospital recognised nationally for high standards in both training and clinical care.
