The Board of Albury Wodonga Health respects and values the right of individuals and groups to advocate for their views on matters of public interest. We acknowledge the strong community passion surrounding the Albury Wodonga Regional Hospital Project, as demonstrated in the recent rally in Corryong.

While advocacy and debate are important, the Board is deeply concerned by the very personal and disparaging comments that the Albury City Mayor made about our Chief Executive Officer during the rally. Such remarks are wholly inconsistent with the Board’s experience of Mr Bill Appleby – whom we observe to be a leader of integrity, honesty and tireless work ethic, who since his appointment as Chief Executive Officer has led many significant improvements to the performance, facilities and standing of Albury Wodonga Health through times of significant transformation and challenge.

He has dedicated nearly four decades to the health sector, having begun his career as a nurse. He continues to lead Albury Wodonga Health with focus and determination, ensuring that, despite the significant pressures facing the health service, the priority remains on delivering the best possible care to our community.

No matter the strength of opinion, all members of the Albury Wodonga Health team deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.

Without exception.

The Board expects all public discourse on the redevelopment to remain constructive, respectful, and firmly focused on the best interests of our region. Personal attacks do nothing to advance the community's interests.
The $558m redevelopment is a landmark investment in the future of healthcare for our cross-border community.

It will significantly and positively enhance the services and facilities available to the people of our region, and we remain committed to working constructively with all stakeholders to ensure the best possible outcome and pursuit of further investment in Albury Wodonga Health to meet future needs.
