AWH Cancer Services expands roster of doctors providing fee-free care

Albury Wodonga Health (AWH) is delighted to welcome four consultants to the cancer specialist outpatient clinics at the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre (AWRCC).
Dr Kerrie Clarke, Dr Caroline Lum, A/Prof Christopher Steer will consult at the AWH public clinic, alongside their private practices.
Dr Taha Al-Mufti has also joined Albury Wodonga Health as a full-time medical oncology staff specialist. Dr Al-Mufti is returning to AWH, where he worked as a registrar before completing his specialist medical oncology training.
“We are pleased to welcome these doctors to the service. This expansion means more people can access specialist care in the public system closer to home,” says Dr Brett Hamilton, Clinical Director of Cancer Services, Albury Wodonga Health.
Dr. Hamilton highlighted that the expansion would enable the current public service to see more patients more quickly, and strengthen care across AWH, with the focus now turning to connecting patients with increased allied health and care coordination services.
“It will make a real difference in how we deliver care – allowing us to better coordinate care across the whole system so patients are not just supported by their specialist but by the full AWH care team”, he said.
The publicly operated outpatient clinic established in December 2025 has already improved access to cancer services by removing out of pocket costs for patients who choose public care.
“Previously, most patients paid out of pocket for their consultations,” Dr Hamilton said. “Now, those appointments with an oncologist and diagnostic services are available at no cost in the public clinic.”
“The model we have implemented also supports continuity of care, with one consultant overseeing a patient’s treatment across their cancer journey at AWH”, he added.
Albury Wodonga Health is also recruiting a second haemotologist, to work alongside Dr Al-Ammari.
