New purpose-built residential mental health facility for Beechworth to improve care and recovery outcomes

Albury Wodonga Health has announced the commencement of the Willows Continuing Care Unit (CCU) redevelopment in Beechworth, delivering a new, purpose-built residential mental health rehabilitation facility for the region.
The redevelopment will replace the existing Willows residential buildings, with modern, contemporised residential facilities designed to better support recovery, wellbeing, and long-term independence.
Funded by an investment from the Australian Government, the new facility will be located across Mayday Court from the current site and will support consumers receiving residential rehabilitation care.
AWH Area Director Mental Health, Wellbeing & AOD, Dannielle McLeish, said the redevelopment represents a significant step forward in providing high-quality mental health care in our region.
“This project will deliver a more fit-for-purpose environment that supports recovery, independence and dignity for consumers, as well as improved working conditions for staff.”
AWH Operational Director, Residential and Rehabilitation Mental Health & Wellbeing Service, David Kidd said the project would be shaped by the people who use and support the service.
“We are committed to ensuring consumers, families, carers and the local community have opportunities to be involved throughout the project. Their feedback will help inform how we deliver this new facility.”
“When it comes to having your own bathroom and being able to prepare your own food, these are the little things that really matter when you're building yourself up,” he said.
Community information sessions will begin from July 2026, and will continue throughout the project, giving local residents, consumers and stakeholders the opportunity to learn more about the redevelopment, ask questions, and share feedback.
Construction is expected to begin in Spring 2026, with the new facility anticipated to be operational in 2027.
Further details, including information session opportunities, will be available via the Your Say AWH project page
