Last week, Albury Wodonga Health welcomed the SMBE 2026 NSW Annual Conference to the Border.

Bringing together biomedical engineers, technicians, clinicians and industry partners from across Australia and overseas, the Society for Medical and Biological Engineering’s conference focused on how technology is shaping the future of healthcare, from cybersecurity and medical devices to emerging innovations.

The event was officially opened by AWH, with strong support from Director of Infrastructure Shaun Strahan and teams across the organisation who helped bring the conference to Albury.

AWH was proudly represented in the program:

  • Vishnu Muraleedharan shared insights on building cyber-resilient clinical technologies
  • Sandeep Kaur presented on managing asset compliance across two states
  • Elizabeth Whitehead highlighted the power of multidisciplinary collaboration in clinical decision-making.

Across the three days, staff from Theatre, ED, ICU, Women’s Health, SCN, Paediatrics, Procurement and Allied Health took the opportunity to explore the trade exhibition, getting hands-on with new and emerging equipment and technologies.

With more than 90 delegates and 30+ exhibitors in attendance, the conference created valuable opportunities for connection, learning and practical skill development, including hands-on workshops covering equipment maintenance, infection control and oxygen systems.

Hosting the conference in Albury also highlighted the unique role AWH plays as the only cross-border health service in Australia, demonstrating the scale, complexity and innovation of care delivered across our region.

A special thank you to Lejo Thomas and the Biomedical Engineering team for their leadership in bringing this event to life locally.
