Our Facilities 

The Department of Emergency Medicine, also known as the Emergency Department or ED, is a busy department attending 35,000 patients annually. our current Albury ED has 20 treatment areas including 4 consulting rooms, a plaster room, an eye room, 12 general cubicles and 2 resuscitation beds.The ED is the regional Trauma Centre for North East Victoria and the NSW catchment area. The ED also receives all orthopaedic cases for the NSW catchment area and North East Victoria.

Early in 2024, our new  Albury ED will be open to the public. The existing ED will no longer operate as an ED and the community will have access to a state-of-the-art contemporary facility including 58 treatment spaces and the following:  

  • 2 triage rooms  

  • 3 dedicated waiting rooms  

  • 8 bed Fast Track zone  

  • 16 bed acute zone  

  • 4 bed paediatric zone (with additional flex capacity)  

  • 4 bed resuscitation zone  

  • 2 isolation rooms  

  • 1 consult room for ENT/Ophthalmology  

  • 1 consult room for gynaecology  

  • 2 treatment rooms (including 1 for paediatrics)  

  • 16 bed short stay unit  

  • Future x-ray and CT scanning capacity delivered as ‘cold shell’  

  • 3 ambulance bays, 4 ambulance parking and dedicated Police vehicle parking  

  • Behavioural assessment room  

  • 2 behavioral assessment consultation rooms  

  • Private family interview room  

 



Our Intensive Care Unit is funded for 5 ICU or equivalent Intensive Care beds with an overall bed capacity of 12 beds comprising:

6 ICU/HDU beds

2 N-Class isolation rooms

4 CCU beds

 

The ICU model of care encompasses Intensive Care, High Dependency and Coronary Care patient cohorts (inclusive of paediatric patients). The Critical Care Service includes a comprehensive Clinical Liaison Service on both Albury and Wodonga sites, Donate Life program and supports the remote cardiac monitoring service for the acute campuses. Our Unit provides care to approximately 550 critically ill patients annually.

 

Our workforce are supported by a comprehensive clinical leadership team, including ICU Clinical Director, Nurse Unit Manager, Supervisor of Medical Training, Clinical Nurse Educators, ACCESS nurses, Clinical Nurse Consultants and Nurse Practitioner. Clinical, business and corporate operations is overseen by a Director of Nursing and Medical Director as part of the Emergency & Critical Care Division.
