The role of the Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officer (AHLO) is to:

  • Provide emotional, social and cultural support to you and your family.
  • Help you to understand medical procedures and routines.
  • Support you to participate in decisions about your care.
  • Ensure that a culturally sensitive service is provided.
  • Advocate and liaise on your behalf.

This service is available to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander patients who are being treated currently in the emergency department or have been admitted to an acute ward.

The role of the Aboriginal Mental Health Liaison Officer is to:

  • To provide support for Aboriginal people who have, or believe they have a mental health issue to access the appropriate Mental Health and Wellbeing services
  • This can include attending appointments with you and your family, to advocate on your behalf and ensure cultural needs are considered if required.

This service is available to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders individuals and/or families involved in or wishing to access Mental Health Services.
