When little Esme came into the world she was having difficulty with her breathing. The team at Albury Wodonga Health’s Maternity Ward worked tirelessly for many hours give to give Esme the help she needed so that she was stable for a flight to Sydney for specialist care.

To celebrate Esme’s life and say a huge thank you to the team at Wodonga Hospital’s Maternity Ward, Esme’s parents, friends and community raised $8,100 for additional Doppler fetal heart monitors. These machines are used frequently in birthing suites, wards and clinics for monitoring the heartbeat of newborns.

Funds were raised for ‘Effort for Esme’ by the community to sponsoring Jamie from Trigger Performance Gym in Tocumwal to;

  • Run 4 miles (6.5km)
  • Every 4 hours
  • For 48 hours!

Otherwise known as the 4 x 4 x 48 challenge.

“The Maternity Ward has given us a daughter, a little sister and a complete family. The compassion and continued support of the Albury Wodonga Health Maternity Unit has been life-changing for us” - Nathan and Jacqui, Esme’s parents.

Albury Wodonga Health is thrilled that baby Esme is home safe and well. Our sincere thanks to Nathan and Jacqui for sharing their story and to the communities of Tocumwal and Finley for their generous gift to our Maternity Ward.
