Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program

Pulmonary Rehabilitation is now seen as a mainstream and essential component of the management of people with chronic respiratory disease.

Research evidence indicates that Pulmonary Rehabilitation is effective in improving independence with daily activities, reducing respiratory symptoms, and reducing hospital admissions. The main aims and benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation are not to change the disease process, but to halt the vicious cycle whereby the symptoms of the disease cause people to limit their normal physical and social function.


Program Objectives

By the end of the program participants will be able to:

  • Understand the importance of physical activity in the management of chronic respiratory disease
  • Understand how the respiratory system works and the effects of common respiratory diseases
  • Identify strategies to assist in the management of respiratory symptoms
  • Understand the types and different uses of common respiratory medication
  • Have an improved sense of physical and mental well-being.

Referrals

Will be accepted from Specialist Physicians or General Practitioners

An assessment will be carried out prior to the commencement of the course to develop goals.
