A podiatrist is a health professional who deals with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of medical and surgical conditions of the feet and legs.
Podiatrists can treat many conditions, and offer help and advice about how to prevent problems occurring. This may include:
- Basic foot care, including the management and treatment of skin and nail disorders, corns, calluses and ingrowing toenails.
- Systemic disorders such as diabetes and arthritis.
- Degenerative neuromuscular disorders, poor circulation and reduced sensation in the feet.
- Problems associated with feet rolling in or out, leg length difference or aches and pain in the feet.
- Shoe and footwear advice.
- Making Insoles and orthoses to realign the feet, cushion or reduce pressure from painful or ulcerated areas of the feet.
- Prescribing exercises to maintain foot function and to reduce further deformity.
- Advice on childrens feet.
Pension/ Health Care Card Holders who are residents of the City of Wodonga, Indigo or Towong Shires and do not live in supported care, can be referred for Podiatry.
Further eligiblity criteria also applies.
It is not necessary to obtain a referral to see the podiatrist, however, a referral often contains information that can assist in the diagnosis and treatment of problems.
Podiatry at Albury Wodonga Health - Wodonga Campus is located in the Community Rehabilitation Centre.
An outpatient fee of $8.00 is charged for podiatry consultants.
