Albury Wodonga Health Media Guidelines

The AWH Communications Department manages all media enquiries and requests relating to all AWH locations.

We are the first point of contact for any media enquiries, including patient condition updates, interview requests with AWH staff acting as medical experts, escorting film crews and photographers and permission to film on hospital grounds.

Media opportunities are subject to approval and will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Media enquiries

Weekdays, 8:00am - 2pm in writing to awh.communications@awh.org.au

Requests to film

  • All interviews, photography and filming on AWH premises must be approved prior to the media entering an AWH facility.
  • A Communications staff member will escort media during approved visits, including for interviews, filming, and photography.
  • Media and journalists are to submit all enquiries and requests in writing prior to 2pm each business day to awh.communications@awh.org.au
  • All AWH staff directly approached by media outlets are to redirect enquiries to the Communications team.

Patient conditions

  • When enquiring about a patient condition update, we are guided by the Health Services Act 1988. This legislation, limits the amount of information that can be released without written consent from the patient, or where appropriate their next of kin.
  • When categorising the condition, we use the following descriptions: stable, serious and critical. Due to patient privacy, we cannot provide any patient details, such as name, age or injuries.

Patient interview requests

Interview requests to individuals on AWH property must be done through our Communications Team. Our team will not approach a patient on the day of admission. It is important to us as a health service to ensure our patients and their families feel safe and supported when in hospital.

Live or Simulated Live crosses

Media are permitted to film AWH facilities from public walkways and footpaths, however, we ask to be notified via our Communications Team prior to arrival so that security on location can be advised.

Albury Wodonga Health (AWH) is proud to be partnering with Gateway Health to deliver and expand Community Paramedic at Clinic (CP@clinic), an innovative program already improving health outcomes for people in regional and rural communities.

Aimed at reducing health barriers for vulnerable and disadvantaged groups, CP@clinic offers free drop-in community clinics led by paramedics, which provide health screening, education, and referrals to other services.

The globally renowned program was introduced to the region by Gateway Health and currently operates in Corryong, Chiltern, Wodonga and Wangaratta, where it has delivered more than 160 clinics and over 1,000 health assessments since commencing in March 2024.

Building on this success, AWH and Gateway Health will launch a six-month pilot from 8 September, with AWH’s Aged Services Emergency Team actively involved in service delivery.

With AWH’s support, CP@clinic will expand into new locations, including across the border into New South Wales.

Currently, community members can work with experienced clinicians to complete health assessments and screenings (e.g. blood pressure, diabetes, walking tests), receive advice and support for managing chronic conditions, ask questions about their health and review medications, set and track personal health goals, and be connected to GPs, mental health services, and local community supports.

The partnership will place a stronger focus on social prescribing, which means connecting people not only to medical care, but also to local community groups, supports and activities that can make a meaningful difference to their health and wellbeing.

AWH CEO Bill Appleby said the agreement will strengthen CP@clinic’s reach and impact, ensuring more communities benefit from accessible, preventative care close to home.

“At its core, CP@clinic empowers people to take charge of their health and connects them to care and community before a crisis occurs. By scaling this program alongside Gateway Health, we can expand CP@clinic to more communities, provide timely care, ease pressure on emergency and ambulance services and ensure the most vulnerable in our region have equitable access to care and support.

“This partnership demonstrates the power of collaboration across our region, while also advancing the kinds of innovative, preventative models of care that are essential to strengthening our health system for the future”, said Mr Appleby.

Trent Dean, Chief Executive Officer, Gateway Health, said:

“By supporting the CP@clinic trial and involving the Aged Services Emergency Team in service delivery, Albury Wodonga Health is strengthening preventative health care across northeast Victoria and southern NSW. This partnership allows us to reach some of the most marginalised in our community, reduce preventable hospital presentations, and help people remain well and supported at home. It is a powerful example of what can be achieved when health services work together and lead with heart.”

About CP@clinic

  • The Community Paramedics Program was developed in Canada by McMaster University and is supported locally by La Trobe University, which provides research and evaluation expertise. Internationally, the program has demonstrated a significant reduction in emergency ambulance callouts, better management of chronic conditions, and improved empowerment and social connectedness for participants.
  • Community paramedics running the program are highly experienced clinicians, trained to support individuals to improve their health and navigate the healthcare system.
  • CP@clinic aims to reduce barriers for vulnerable and disadvantaged groups, ensuring more people in our region have access to the care and support they need.
