Wodonga Campus District Nursing Service provides nursing services to patients and carers in their homes, helping to maintain maximum independence for people with chronic illness.
What Is District Nursing?
Qualified professional nurses who provide broad nursing services to:
- Patients and carers at home following hospitalisation for surgery or some other illness.
- Enable people who suffer from chronic illness to remain in their own home and maintain maximum independence.
- People requiring palliative care.
What Can Be Provided?
The District Nursing Service provides assistance with:
- Wound Care
- Medication management
- Assessment of health status including blood pressure and assistance with diabetes management
- Palliative Care
- Assessments for Domiciliary Nursing Benefits
- Referrals for Aged Care Assessment and other health care professionals
- Education for patients and carers about health care needs
- Co-ordination of care with other health service providers
- Continence management
Who Is Eligible For Care?
Nursing services are offered to anyone requiring home based nursing care. This includes the young, people with disabilities and the frail aged.

District Nurses are able to liase with a range of other heath care providers and community agencies to ensure your needs are being met, including:

Fees
The Department of Human Services set fees.
Fees will be fully discussed with you when the District Nurse first visits. No one will be refused service if they are not able to pay.
People who receive benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs, Workcover or Transport Accident Commission can also be referred to the service.

Referrals to this service are accepted from people needing assistance, family members, doctors, other health care providers and community agencies.

Service Hours
The District Nursing Service is staffed 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Saturday.
Also 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm from Monday to Friday by appointment only.
Sunday hours are; 8:00am to 4:00pm.
When Will A Nurse Call?
Following referral to the service a nurse will phone to make an appointment for an initial visit. This visit can take up to an hour. Carers are encouraged to be in attendance at this appointment as a plan of care is developed during this time.
Subsequent visits will be made on nominated days, depending on needs. However, a specific appointment cannot always be made.
